Imposter Syndrome: Overcome it with Hypnotherapy

Why do I still feel this way?” It’s because imposter syndrome isn’t based on reality; it’s a story we tell ourselves. And the problem is, it’s a story that sticks—until we actively work to change it. Why Performers Are Prone to Imposter Syndrome
What I’ve seen in working with performers is that the pressure to always be “on” can make even the most accomplished artist question their worth. Every audition, every performance, and every review can feel like your entire career is on the line. And when you’re constantly comparing yourself to others (hello, social media!), it’s easy to think, “Everyone else has it together. I’m just getting lucky.”
I once worked with an incredibly talented actor called Sarah, who had been cast in several major roles on Broadway. On the outside, she looked like she was thriving. But Sarah came to me because every time she landed a new role, she would panic. “I’m going to blow it,” she’d tell herself, “The director made a mistake hiring me.”
Sarah’s imposter syndrome was holding her back from fully enjoying her success. She couldn’t shake the feeling that, at any moment, the people around her would realise she wasn’t actually talented. Sound familiar?
How Hypnotherapy Helps Break the Cycle of Self-Doubt
Here’s where hypnotherapy comes in. Hypnotherapy is all about getting to the root of those deeply ingrained thoughts and beliefs—the ones that tell you you’re not enough. These thoughts live in your subconscious mind, which means you can’t just talk yourself out of them using logic. You need to shift them at a deeper level.

Not just the notes, the lines, or the steps, but the feeling of owning the stage, being your true self and expressing who you really are?
With hypnotherapy, I use a unique technique that I call Inner Visioning to help you see, feel and experiencing yourself succeeding, thriving and soaring, but not in a "fake it till you make it" kind of way - no no no! That doesn’t work. Your logical mind just steps in and says “don’t be silly, you don’t really believe you’re good enough!”
This is all about reprogramming your subconscious to believe that success, confidence and self-belief is your natural state. If you can feel what it’s like to perform with confidence, your brain starts to accept that as the norm.
And when your brain believes it, imposter syndrome doesn’t stand a chance.
I recently worked with a very successful musician called James who used to feel crushed by the pressure of big performances. He played in bands with major pop stars. He would stand in front of an audience, and his hands would shake so badly, he thought he wouldn’t be able to play. Through hypnotherapy we got to the root cause of some traumatic experiences at his classical music conservatoire from many years ago where his self-esteem was eroded. We worked on processing those experiences and releasing them from his body and nervous system.
We then did the amazing Inner Visioning process, to create a state of calmness and control during these high-pressure moments. He started to see himself as the confident performer he truly was. Now, instead of focusing on what could go wrong, James walks on stage with a sense of peace and excitement for what’s ahead. He has found joy in making music again, even under intense pressure.

In my experience working with performers from all over the world, I’ve found that many of them are stuck in an internal dialogue that’s hypercritical. The things they say to themselves are things they would never say to another person: “You’re not good enough,” “They’ll see through you,” “You don’t deserve this.” And yet, this voice runs in the background of every audition, every rehearsal, every performance.
